The Department of Agriculture stated that there is a risk of fall armyworm spreading to green vegetables such as “gotu kola” and “mukunu-wenna” which are grown without using chemicals.

Speaking to our news team, its Director General, Dr. W.M.W. Weerakoon stated that the fall armyworm’s tendency to infest tender leaves has resulted in this situation.

Meanwhile, speaking to media in Methagama – Kothmale today, Chairman of the All Ceylon Farmers’ Federation, Namal Karunarathna urged the government to provide cash prizes to farmers who destroy fall armyworms.
