Estate workers protested today as well continuing their demand for a daily wage of 1,000 rupees and urging to refrain from signing a Memorandum of Understanding.

Our correspondents stated that a group of estate workers from Bogawanthalawa staged a protest for about 5 hours from 7.30 AM today obstructing the Hatton – Balangoda main road.

Police officers were deployed to the area during the duration of the protest.

The protestors stated that they cannot accept the wage increment announced jointly by the government, estate owners and joint estate trade unions.
