Protests against the collective agreement on estate workers daily wage continued across island today as they complained that the 1000 rupee demand has not been met in the new agreement.

Under the new collective agreement signed yesterday, the daily basic wage will be increased up to 700 rupees.

Another 40 rupees would be added for every additional kilogram of tea leaves plucked.

50 rupees would be added, depending on the fluctuations of pricing.

In addition, the estate owners have pledged to pay wage-arrears for three months which will be implemented over two years.

estate workers have complained however that their daily wage has actually increased between 10 to 50 rupees.

In protest, estate workers staged demonstrations in Hatton and Bogawantalawa this morning.

Reports state that effigies of the politicians and estate owners who signed off the agreement were burned.
