The Senior DIG in charge of the Southern Province, Ravi Wijegunawardena has been transferred to the Police Headquarters.

In response to an inquiry made by our news team, Police Media Spokesperson, Superintendent of Police, Ruwan Gunasekara stated that the Senior DIG has been transferred temporarily.

The temporary transfer has been made in connection to the investigations being carried out by the CID in to the recent disappearance of two businessmen from Rathnaudagama – Boossa – Rathgama.  

A senior official at the department told our news team that it was recommended to the IGP and the Police Commission that it is suitable to provide a transfer to the Senior DIG in charge of the Southern Province, Ravi Wijegunawardena, until the said investigations have been completed.

Additionally, it is reported that the CID has recorded statements from several individuals, including relatives and business associates, regarding the incident.

31 year old Raseen Chinthaka and 33 year old Manjula Asela were abducted on the 23rd of last month.

Relatives of the individuals charged that a group in police uniforms arrived in a van and a motorcar at around 10 AM on the 23rdand abducted them.

Later, the wife of one of the individuals received an anonymous letter stating that one individual died after being assaulted by police and that the other individual was also murdered to conceal the incident.
