A petition against the election commission has been filed with the Supreme Court for not conducting provincial council polls.

Our correspondent stated that the petition was filed today by the convener of Sathyagaveshakayo, attorney-at-law, Premanath C Dolawatta.

The Petitioner requests the Supreme Court to issue an order on the Chairman of the Election Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya to hold provincial polls with immediate effect.

However, Minister Lakshman Kiriella who addressed a media conference in Kandy today said that a date to conduct provincial council polls should be decided by parliament.
