Following a court order, the mobile phone belonging to the first suspect who was arrested in connection to the heist of a diamond and gemstones worth 7 billion rupees has been handed over to the government analyst.

The suspect is believed to have been given instruction from underworld gang leader, Makandure Madush.

Police media spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekera noted that analysis of the content of mobile phone belonging to Ravindra Nalaka Ranasinghe alias Loku ayya, who was arrested in Padukka, revealed many important facts pertaining to the heist.

31 year old Kasun Dananjaya alias Wedikande Kasun; a close associate of Makandure Madush who was arrested yesterday in connection to the heist is to be produced before the Gangodawila magistrates court.

The suspect was arrested by a group of officers attached to the Mirihana special crimes division yesterday morning in Wattala Wedikanda.

The heisted took place at a house in Pannipitiya on the 5th of November last year, by a group dressed in police uniforms and civil attire.

Police noted that the diamond alone was worth 5 billion rupees while the of the gemstones were valued at 2 billion rupees.
