Research at the university of Sri Jayewardenepura, has led to the conclusion that there is no evidence to suggest that the dwarf population observed roaming around Ampara and Anuradhapura, are not Neettawa pygmies.

There have been reports of The dwarfs, who remain in hiding, being seen in Mahawilachchiya in Anuradhapura and Damana Thottama in Ampara.

in the Anuradhapura it was reported that these individuals had tried to attack a few women ,by scratching them and fleeing from the site, soon after.

a group of farmers in Ampara-noted that a dwarf was seen in the area a few days ago

these reported, had caused researchers to investigate the possibility that  the population of Neettawa pygmies may not in fact be extinct.

However research carried out by a team from the department of anthropology at the university of Sri Jayewardenepura concluded that these individuals did not belong to that species.
