The 8 suspects including the son of MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage have been arrested in connection with the hit and run motor accident which caused critical injuries to Traffic OIC of Borella police, IP Ananda Sagara Sarachchandra.

An investigator stated that the suspects were returning from a night club and the son of MP Aluthgamage was also aboard the Defender Jeep which hit OIC Sarachchandra.

The OIC was run over at Dupli-Bullers Junction at Bambalapitiya while he was heading to attend duty at 4.35 am yesterday.

The hit and run defender was found later parked in a house at Pagoda Garden in Pelawatta Battaramulla last afternoon.

Its owner has also been identified a 27-year old Visitha Sri Wijesekera of Kollupitiya.

At the same time, it was revealed that Navindu Omesh Rathnayake a son of an SP attached to the VIP Security Division drove the Defender at the time of the accident.

The owner of the vehicle, Visitha Sri Wijesekera believed to have sat next to the driver and, MP Mahindananda Aluthgamage son was also onboard the ill-fated Defender.

Meanwhile, the owner of the Prado Vehicle which followed the ill-fated Defender at the time of the accident and two others were also arrested after they surrendered to police this morning.

Later it was revealed that the Prado jeep was driven by UNP CMC member Duminda Attygala.

Attygala is the owner of the Prado jeep.

A senior police officer investigating the accident stated that all 8 suspects arrested earlier were drunk at the time of the accident.

They will be produced before court today.

Meanwhile, Borella Traffic OIC Ananda Sagara Sarachchandra who received critical injuries in the hit and run accident is still receiving treatment at the ICU of the Colombo National Hospital.

A hospital spokesman said that the condition of the victims is critical.
