The Government Executive Officers’ Joint Committee has decided to carry out a token strike today.

They are going on this strike in protest against providing salary and allowance increase solely for legal officers in violation of the national salary policy.

Secretary of the said joint committee H.A.L. Udayasiri points out that as a result of this a serious salary anomaly has been caused to executive officers of other parallel government services.

There are about 15,000 executive officers in public service.

Reports say that 15 trade unions including the Sri Lanka Administrative Service Union, the Inland Revenue Trade Unions’ Collective and the All Island Teacher Education Service Union participate in today’s token strike.

Although a discussion was held at Temple Trees with responsible officers including Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Public Administration Minister Ranjith Madduma Bandara yesterday regarding the demands, it was futile.
