The Sri Lankan government has requested both India and Pakistan to act with restraint to ensure peace and stability of the South Asian region.

Issuing a statement the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Sri Lanka is deeply concerned about the recent developments following the brutal terrorist attack on a Central Reserve Police Force convoy in Pulwama, India.

The statement further noted that Sri Lanka condemns the terrorist attack in Pulwama and stands firmly by the fight against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

Pakistan meanwhile, shot down two Indian air force fighter jets and launched air strikes at six targets in Indian-administered Kashmir, in a dramatic ratcheting up of tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

Meanwhile, Sri Lankan Airlines announced today that its scheduled flights to Karachi and Lahore tomorrow have been suspended.

This decision has been taken after Pakistan temporarily closed its airspace following hostilities with neighbouring India.

The company further requested its passengers to contact their ticketing agents for further information.
