Budget debate begins today - Price increase on vehicles, Wagon R. Up by Rs. 250,000/=, Alto by Rs. 150,000 and Aqua by Rs. 600,000/-

The debate on the second reading on the 2019 budget appropriation bill is scheduled to commence today.

as per the tradition the opposition will begin the debate which will continue over the next 6 days.

The voting will be held, on the 12th March.

Following this, the third reading of the budget executive committee debate is to take place from the 13th of March, and will continue for 19 days.

The final vote with regard to the budget will take place on the 5th of April.

The 2019 budget was presented in parliament yesterday by finance minister Mangala Samaraweera.

The finance minister noted that the production tax and tax on luxury vehicles will be increased from today.

Accordingly, the production tax on petrol vehicles with less than 800cc will be increased by Rs.150, 000,

Vehicle with less than 1000cc increases by Rs.175, 000

& for vehicles with less than 1300cc the price will increase by Rs.500, 000.

the Production tax on hybrid petrol vehicles less than 800cc will be increased by Rs.250, 000 & less than 1500cc will be increased by Rs.500, 000.

The production tax on three-wheelers has been increased by 60,000 rupees.

However, the production tax on electric vehicles with a capacity of 70 kilowatts has been reduced by 175,000 rupees.

The production tax on mini trucks has also been decreased.

with the increase of production taxes, the vehicle importers association of sri Lanka has stated that Wagon R will be increased by 250,000 rupees.

The president of the association Indika Sampath Merinchige noted that the price of an Alto will be increased by 150,000 rupees while Axio and Aqua will be increased by 600 thousand rupees.

Finally the Premio, and CHR will increase by 700 thousand rupees.
