The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that a request will be submitted at this time’s Geneva sessions to obtain time to implement the proposal which was adopted in the year 2015 with the co-sponsorship of America in connection with human rights in this country.

Anyhow, President Maithripala Sirisena recently stated that he was sending three of his representatives to Geneva to inform the council that if there are problems regarding human rights, Sri Lanka should be granted the freedom to solve them.

The President, expressing his views regarding this at a meeting held with heads of media institutions said that his representatives will request that Sri Lanka be granted the freedom to internally solve problems, if any.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said a proposal will be submitted to this time’s sessions requesting an extension of the 30/1 resolution which was adopted on 1 October 2015 displaying the continuous commitment and determination within Sri Lanka to maintain a permanent and long-standing procedure of reconciliation.

The 40 session of the United Nations Human Rights Council is being held currently at Geneva. A resolution in connection with Sri Lanka is due to be submitted to the council on the 20 of this month.
