The report compiled by UN Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet with regard to Sri Lanka has been made public.

The report has highlighted Sri Lanka’s failure to comply with certain commitments made to the UN Human Rights Council.

In 2015 Sri Lanka Co Sponsored Resolution 30/1 submitted to the UN by the United States and it was adopted without a vote.

However, the Foreign Ministry said that Sri Lanka is preparing to sponsor a separate resolution.

Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena will be sending 3 delegates to the UN Sessions to reiterate that Sri Lanka should be allowed to carry out its work without outside influence.

The report by the UN Commissioner for Human Rights said that the lack of progress shows that the situation of human rights in Sri Lanka should remain firmly on the agenda of the Human Rights Council.

The High Commissioner therefore urges the Council to remain closely engaged with the Government of Sri Lanka and to continue to monitor developments in the country.

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights is expected to table the report at the UN Human Rights Council on the 20th of this month.
