15 individuals who commented on Facebook regarding the accident that resulted in the death of the Borella Traffic OIC, called to court

The police stated that efforts are being made to bring to court 15 individuals who posted comments on Facebook for evidence, regarding the motor accident that resulted in critically injury and death of the Traffic OIC of Borella.

The comments and posts indicated that the driver of the defender that was responsible for the accident was not among those arrested.

However, police investigations lead to the arrest, and subsequent remanding of Navindu Omesh Rathnayaka, the son of the Superintendent of Police of VIP Security, as the alleged driver of the defender. CCTV footage from 5 locations was used for the investigation in order to arrest the suspect. Meanwhile, Navindu Omesh Rathnayaka is scheduled to be produced before the court tomorrow.

7 persons including the son of Parliamentarian Mahindananda Aluthgamage were arrested but later released by courts regarding the incident which occurred on the 24th of February, near the Bambalapitiya- Galle Road, Dupli Bullers Junction. All of them had been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.

Meanwhile, the Traffic OIC of Borella, IP Ananda Sagara Sarathchandra who was critically injured after been run over by a Defender passed away last night, while receiving treatment at the ICU of the Colombo National hospital.
