The second reading of the budget 2019 was passed with 43 majority votes in parliament this afternoon.

119 members voted for the budget while 76 voted against. 

In the electronic voting system, the TNA and CWC joined the UNF to vote for the budget while UPFA and JVP voted against.

Meanwhile, SLFP MPs refrained from voting and they expect to vote for the President’s expenditure head during the committee stage tomorrow.

The budget 2019 was presented to parliament by Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera on March 5th.

Debates on committee stage will be held for 19 days beginning tomorrow.
