Former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa permitted by Court to travel abroad

The special three-member High Court trial-at-bar, today granted permission to former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to travel abroad from 26 of this month to 12 April.

The permission was granted when the case in connection with misusing a sum of Rs. 33 million in constructing the D. A. Rajapaksa Memorial Museum at Medamulana was taken up for hearing in the presence of judges Sampath Abeykone, Sampath Wijeratne and Champa Janaki Rajaratne.

At the same time, the Defence Lawyers filed a fundamental rights objection regarding the manner in which the accusations in the case had been filed, on behalf of the four defendants.

The Hiru Court Reporter said that the Attorney General is due to be summoned to provide answers to this, on 28 of this month.
