The Western provincial council official term is to end at midnight tomorrow.

The official term of 7 provincial councils have concluded so far, and is currently being administered by the respective governors.

The Sabaragamuwa, Eastern, North central provincial councils official term ended in September 2017, and has been under the purview of the respective governors for 1 year and 7 months.

The official term of the Central, North eastern and Northern provincial councils came to end in September last year and have been under the administration of its respective governors for the past 7 months.

The Southern provincial council official term came to an end on the midnight of 10th of April.

The only active Provincial council which continues in its official term is the Uva provincial council, and its term is to end on the 8th of October.

However the government is yet to decide a date on elections for the provincial councils which has concluded its official term.

The Western provincial council was highlighted recently, due to several incidents including the purchasing of chairs over 600 thousand rupees, and the viewing of pornographic content by several individuals on tabs provided for the councilors.

Meanwhile, journalists questioned regarding the rumours on Western province chief minister Isura Devapriya on receiving a post as governor during a function held in Padukka.
