Explosions in 8 locations - 228 killed; 470 injured - 7 suspects arrested over the incident - 3 policemen killed in Dematagoda blast

The death toll in the explosions which took place at 8 places in the island has risen to 228 and more than 470 were injured.

State Defence Minister Ruwan Wijewardana stated that there are 27 foreigners among the deceased.

81 bodies of victims have been placed at the Colombo National Hospital and another 110 bodies are at the Negombo Hospital.

28 bodies are at the Batticialo hospital and 7 bodies have been placed at the Ragama Hospital.

Explosions occurred at the St Anthony’s Church in Kochchikade, Zeon Church in Batticaloa,  Katuwapitiya church in Katana.

Explosions were also reported in the premises of Shangri La, Kingsbury and Cinnamon Grand hotels in Colombo.

Another explosion was reported at a hotel opposite the Dehiwala Zoo.

2 persons died due to the explosion.

Defence Secretary Hemasiri Fernando said that 3 Police officers have died in an explosion at a house in Mahavila Park - Dematagoda.

He said that there is a Sub Inspector among the Police officers killed.

A special search operation was carried out in and around Dematagoda area.

Meanwhile Police Curfew has been imposed with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, State Defence Minister Ruwan Wijewardana stated that 7 suspects have been arrested over the attacks.
