A van suspected to be used by the assailant of Kochchikade church was inspected by security forces this afternoon.

A police officer stated that security personnel found three gas cylinders full of explosives. 

Later the bomb was defused by Sri Lanka Air force and STF.

Police Media Spokesman Superintendent of Police Ruwan Gunasekera said that a stock of explosives was discovered from the Private bus stand at Bastian Mawatha in Pettah this afternoon.

12 Detonators were found at the bus stand, while during a search carried out later, 87 Detonators were found nearby in a garbage bag.

The Colombo Magistrate Court was told today that the suicide bomber who carried out the attack at Shangri-La hotel was Seelavan Hinsamy.

Wellampitiya police produced 9 suspects before Colombo Additional Magistrate Saliya Channa Abeyyrathna and, they were remanded until May 6th.

Police arrested these suspects at a copper factory at No.111 on the Wellampitiya Avissawella road at 2 O’clock this morning.

Police informed the court that these 9 suspects have worked in this factory.

It was owned by Seelavan Hinsamy who triggered the suicide bomb at Shangri-La hotel and the two women who died in the bomb explosion at the house in Mahawila housing scheme, Dematagoda.

Police informed the court that one of the women killed in the explosion in a house at Dematagoda was the wife of Seelavan Hinsamy and, the other was his relative.

Police said the suspects were arrested for questioning as they are connected to these explosions.

Meanwhile, the Police who inspected a house behind the St. Sebastians Church in Enderamulla – Wattala arrested two suspicious individuals.

This inspection was carried out based on information received during interrogation of suspects taken into custody in Dambulla today.

At the same time, Police temporarily closed the road in the city of Mahabage – Ragama to check a suspiciously abandoned motor vehicle.

Meanwhile, Army Commander Mahesh Senanayake arrived at the residence of the Archbishop in Colombo today and met His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith.

Meanwhile, the Management of the Shangri-La Hotel in Colombo which was subjected to the terrorist attack yesterday had decided to close the hotel until further notice.

In a statement issued by the hotel it was stated that this decision was made since a group of guests who were staying at the hotel as well as some staff had been victims of the attack.
