President expects to restructure security divisions

President Mathripala Sirisena said that with the trends that could take place he intends to bring about a restructure of the security divisions in the future.

This was at a meeting held today at the Presidential Secretariat together with foreign ambassadors in Sri Lanka, high commissioners, representatives of the United Nations Organization and heads of international institutions.

The President said further on this occasion that these terror attacks were totally unexpected by the government.

President Maithripala Sirisena said that anyhow the security forces have been further strengthened in readiness to face such a situation in the future.

The President said that he believed that with the assistance of the international community and making use of local experience on controlling terrorism, it would be possible to eradicate terrorism from its very roots, quite soon.

At the same time President Maithripala Sirisena declared at this meeting that he accepts the responsibility of guaranteeing that emergency regulations will not be used against civilians.

The President’s Media Division also announced that the President had mentioned on this occasion that arrangements will be made soon to remove the ban on social media in the very near future.

The foreign ambassadors had said that they will provide total support to eradicate terrorism that has arisen in Sri Lanka.
