The IGP has called for explanations from 4 Senior Police Officers regarding their failure to take proper action even after having received information of a possible attack in Colombo.

The IGP has ordered for a report to be submitted within 2 days, from 2 Senior DIG’s, a DIG and an SSP.

As per reports circulating on social media, a top secret document had been shared by Head of National Intelligence A N Sisira Mendis.

The letter had warned that an individual named Zahran Hashim of National Thowheeth Jamaath and his followers were to carry out suicide attacks targeting catholic churches and the Indian High Commission.

Quoting an intelligence report, Head of National Intelligence A N Sisira Mendis had mentioned 4 modes that could be used to carry out the attack, namely suicide blasts, Knife attacks, Shootings or a truck bombing.

The letter had mentioned the names of Zahran Hashim, Jaal Al Kuwithal, Rilwan, Sajith Mawulawi, Shahid Milhan and few others.

The letter had been forwarded on the 9th of April to Western Province Senior DIG Nandana Munasinghe, Commanding Officer of the Organized Crime Prevention and Narcotics Unit of the STF Senior DIG M R Lathif, DIG in charge of Special Security Priyalal Dasanayaka and SSP of the Counter Terrorism Unit Warna Jayasundara.

In reference to this information, DIG in charge of Special Security Priyalal Dasanayaka had forwarded a letter to VIP Security Divisions and it was this letter that started circulating in social media following the attack.
