A suspect arrested at Slave Island with 46 swords in his possession

The STF has arrested a suspect along with 46 swords during a search operation conducted in the Slave Island neighborhood.

Police Media spokesman, SP, Ruwan Gunasekera said the search operation was launched from early morning to noon today.

He said, In addition, search operations were conducted in several parts of the island today as well.

Later, Police seized 1 set of clothes similar to army uniforms from a lodging room of a Mosque in Colpetty this afternoon.

Police have launched a search operation to arrest a suspect from Matara who is believed to have collected these clothes.

However, another youth who had stayed in this lodging with the currently absconding suspect, was taken into police custody.

At the same time there were false text messages being exchanged via mobile phones during the past few days that a bomb attack was imminent in areas including Galle, Matara and Tangalle.

The young woman who had created this text message has been taken into custody by the Gandhara Police today and the suspect is said to be a 21 year old resident of Talalla.

She is due to be produced before the Matara Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.

Meanwhile, visa concessions which had been granted to 39 countries have been suspended until further notice.

In response to an inquiry made our news team, the Controller of Immigration and Emigration Pasan Ratnayake said that this decision was made based on the prevailing situation.

Accordingly, foreigners who wish to visit this country will have to obtain visa prior to arrival.

Through the proposed new system, it was possible to obtain a visa at the Airport itself to enter the country.

Anyhow, the government has decided to suspend that system until further notice.
