2 arrested in connection with Negambo incident

Two persons who created a tense situation at Peruthota, Kochcikade in Negombo have been arrested.

Police stated that several more suspects have been identified already.

An altercation between two individuals led to a clash at Peruthota last afternoon.

Police curfew was imposed till 7 am today in the areas under the Negombo police division owing to the tense situation which erupted between two groups in the Negombo – Kochchikade- Poruthota area last night.

Police curfew was imposed last night in areas of Negombo, Kochchikade, Katunayake, Diwulapitiya, Kotadeniyaawa, Pamunugama, Raddolugama, Seeduwa, Dungalpitiya and Kataana.

The police STF was also deployed in order to contain the tense situation which had erupted in the area.

Meanwhile, The Director General of the Government Information Department Nalaka Kaluwewa declared that the ban on Social Media including Facebook has been lifted now.

The temporary ban was imposed on Social Media with the situation that broke out in the Negombo Police Division yesterday.
