The time granted for handing over illegal swords, machetes and sharp pointed knives as well as uniforms similar to Army Uniforms has been extended for another 48 hours.

Police Media Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekera said that these items should be handed over to the nearest Police Station as soon as possible.

Although a period of two days had been granted to hand these over to Police, it was scheduled to end at midnight tonight.

Meanwhile, two close associates of Rilwan Hashim, the brother of the leader of the National Thowheeth Jama’ath organization Zahran Hashim have been taken into custody in Kattankudy by the Police Special Task Force.

The Police had received information that last year when Rilwan Hashim had manufactured bombs there had been an explosion and he had sustained injuries. It was then that these two associates had helped him.

The two suspects were handed over to the Kattankudy Police for further investigations.

In the meantime, Police discovered a motorcycle without an owner parked at Gas Paha Junction.

The Police STF has been summoned to the area by now to carry out further investigations.
