A lengthy investigation into 20 allegations against Madush

Sources of the Criminal Investigation Department said that a lengthy investigation has been launched into 20 powerful allegations against underworld gang leader Makandure Madush who was arrested upon arrival in the island subsequent to being deported from Dubai.

Statements are being recorded from him during a period of more than 24 hours and it is reported that this interrogation is taking place under the Emergency Regulations in operation at present.

It is reported that in the first phase, twenty of the most serious type of incidents regarding which Madush has been accused of have been separated from among the criminal allegations against him and will be investigated.

A top official of the CID said that among these crimes are murders, aiding and abetting them, powerful thefts and incidents regarding drug dealing.

Samarasinghe Arachchilage Madush Lakshitha alias Makandure Madush who has many allegations of crimes against him returned to the island at 5.00 am yesterday.

A group of CID officials who went to Dubai accompanied him back to the island and he was arrested in the Airport premises itself and further investigations commenced.

A separate investigation has been launched under Emigration and Immigration Laws as well against Makandure Madush.

He has used a false passport to come back to Sri Lanka this time as well and therein his name is stated as Warnakulasuriya Ajith Eranga.

This passport has been issued to Madush 30 April 2015 and the attention of investigating teams has been focused on how he obtained it as well.
