President says he intends to run the Batticaloa University as private university

President Maithripala Sirisena emphasized that terrorism has not gained victory anywhere in the world and that room should not be allowed to segregate the nation of Sri Lanka on behalf of brutal objectives of extremist terrorism.

The President made this statement when he met government officials of the Eastern Province and Muslim youth of the area during his observation tour of Saindamarudhu, Kalmunai this morning (08).

The President emphasized on this occasion that the incidents of 21 April was not a problem of Sri Lanka but an internationally connected act of terror.

The President also declared that while powerful countries of the world were standing up against this international terrorist group, the Sri Lankan security divisions were carrying out operations to destroy those connected to this terrorism in this country and on their way to reaching a successful conclusion.

Therefore, the President requested everyone not to leave room to contribute towards terrorism by getting involved in types of activities that damage national unity and reconciliation in this country.

He further said that everyone should commit themselves to further strengthening national unity and reconciliation within the country.

The President also met government officials of the Eastern Province in Saindhamarudhu, Kalmunai where bomb explosions took place on 26 April.

President Maithripala Sirisena said further that together with the reforms taking place in the Security Divisions, national security in this country has taken on a new look and is being implemented through a new plan. He also said that through these procedures, a free society where all citizens can live without fear or suspicion has been ensured.

Subsequently the President met the youth of the area at this venue too.

The President has also expressed his views on the university established in Batticaloa under the patronage of the Governor of the Eastern Province M. L. A. M. Hisbullah.

He said he intends to run it as a private university, under the rules and regulations of the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Education.

The President’s Media Division said that the President also mentioned the fact that a clear decision is to be made regarding the study courses being taught by this university.

President Sirisena said further that there will be no room left for terrorism in the motherland and that as much as fulfilling the responsibility properly of destroying terrorism, that as the state leader he will fulfill the responsibility of not inconveniencing any ethnicity in this country.

The Presidential Media Division said that the President who visited the area where the bomb explosions took place on 26 April engaged in an observation tour as well.
