Due to production of hydropower being restricted as a result of prevailing dry weather, provision of electricity daily has become an immense challenge, according to the Media Spokesman of the Ministry or Power and Renewable Energy Sulakshana Jayawardena.

He said that the water levels in reservoirs used to produce electricity have fallen considerably.

The water level of the Castlereagh Reservoir is 18.4 percent while the water capacity at the Kotmale Reservoir is 39.6 percent.

The Media Spokesman of the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy Sulakshana Jayawardena said further that the water levels at the reservoirs in Victoria, Randenigala and Samanalawewa remain at 25.2, 78.3 and 28.5 percent respectively.

Meanwhile, Cabinet approval was granted to the proposal to purchase power of 200 MW as an emergency at the Cabinet meeting held on 27 March.
