President requests not to make use of the current situation in the country on behalf of either political racist objectives

President Maithripala Sirisena says that statements being made by certain individuals on behalf of narrow political objectives have become obstructions to the procedure of building national unity while freeing the country of challenge of terrorism.

The President made this statement when he met representatives of Muslim Civil Organizations including the All Ceylon Jammiyathul Ulama Organization yesterday (08) evening at his office.

On this occasion the President said that the responsibility of all those citizens who love the country is not raising their voices in favour of narrow political objectives but fulfilling responsibilities towards building a society on behalf of the people of the country to live in with freedom and peace, with proper understanding.

Although criticisms are necessary, they should be fair and malicious criticisms as well as those made without proper understanding of information can become mainly empty, President Sirisena pointed out.

He also said that as a multi-religious country, no person of any religious faith should be inconvenienced.

Therefore, when speaking up either in Parliament, within people’s society or anywhere at all the President requested everyone to act with intelligence and knowledge of the situation that prevails in the country.

Expressing their views Muslim civil organization representatives said that they do not consider persons involved in brutal terrorism as connected to their community and that Muslim society totally condemns extremism and terrorism.

These Muslim civil organization representatives told the President that as a result, they will provide every assistance possible to the Security Divisions in order to eradicate from the grass roots this extremism terrorism.

They requested in the presence of the President that not every Muslim national should be viewed as a terrorist.
