Former Tamil National Alliance Member of the Northern Provincial Council, M. K. Sivajilingam says that bringing Pakistani refugees to the North is unsuitable.

Expressing his views to the Hiru News Division, he said:

“Subsequent to the Easter Sunday bombings a situation has arisen in Negombo where they are unable to keep about 700 Pakistani Refugees. The government is now wondering where they can send these refugees to. They are making arrangements to take them to Vavuniya and settle them there. The foreign minister came to the North and held discussions about it. The head of the Anglican Council in Jaffna has agreed to take over a section of the refugees too. A very dangerous situation exists in the country at present. They are Pakistani nationals. They follow the faith of Islam. I believe that if they are sent to an area where there are more Muslim people, it would be better. I think an area like Beruwala is far more suitable.”

Meanwhile, at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday Minister of Uva Province of Tamil Education, roadways and estate infrastructure Sendil Thondaman mentioned an institution where Islam is being taught without the approval of either the University Grants Commission or the Ministry of Higher Education.
