United Nations assistance to Sri Lanka for eradicating terrorism

Permanent representative to the United Nations Organization in New York of Sri Lanka Dr. Rohan Perera says that Sri Lanka is now facing a different type of terrorist threat.

He said at the UN Headquarters that, a need for improving local security methods as arisen now.

The UN launched a special procedure on 7 to prevent foreign terrorist organizations from circulating across borders.

The objective of this is to build cooperation among countries to bring members of terrorist organizations to book.

UN Permanent Representative from Sri Lanka Dr. Rohan Perera said that requirements of Sri Lanka under this programme will be informed in the future.

Dr. Rohan Perera also expressed his thanks regarding the assistance provided to Sri Lanka during the past two weeks by the UN Headquarters and the UN Terrorist Control Office.

He said that it has been accepted that the Easter Sunday bombings were carried out by the National Thowheeth Jama’ath organization and the Jamaithi Millathu Ibrahim or the J. M. I. organization.

UN Permanent Representative from Sri Lanka in New York Dr. Rohan Perera said that steps will be taken to establish laws in this country according to the conventions of the UN Security Council in order to halt activities of extremist organizations and foreign terrorist organizations.
