Navy fires at 2 Vehicles which failed to heed warnings to stop; 1 killed, believed to have been drunk

Navy Officers at the Checkpoint located near the Wattala – Hunupitiya flyover have opened fire at 2 vehicles which had failed to heed warnings to stop, and one person was killed.

The first incident was reported after midnight when a motor vehicle was ordered to stop but attempted to proceed without stopping.

As the Navy opened fire, the driver, a 34 year old was injured and later succumbed to his injuries.

The second incident involving a BMW was reported at around 1.50 AM.

Navy Media Spokesperson Lieutenant Commander Isuru Sooriyabandara said that drivers of both vehicles were under the influence of alcohol.
