A programme named the ‘Jana Sanhara’ or ‘Carnage of People’ week in commemoration of people who died in the war in some places in the North and East has commenced.

This is under the initiative of former Member of Parliament M. K. Sivajilingam of the Tamil National Alliance.

He said that this programme which commenced yesterday (12) will be in operation until the 18th of this month.

It has been arranged to hold a special function in relation to this in the vicinity of the Vellamulliwaikkal Memorial on that day.

We made an inquiry from Army Spokesman Brigadier Sumith Atapattu. He said that there is no prohibition on commemorating civilians who were killed during the war.

However, the Army Spokesman said that there is no way they could commemorate the LTTE which was a banned organization.
