The Department of Emigration and Immigration is making arrangements to deport 4 Bangladeshi nationals from Sri Lanka who were engaged in a scam to obtain French citizenship using the Marriage Law of Sri Lanka.

Accordingly, these Bangladeshi nationals who have registered as refugees of France arrived at the Katunayake Airport last evening.

Since they failed to provide proper responses to the questions asked, steps have been taken to deport them back to France.

According to the Marriage Law of Sri Lanka, if an individual spends 3 days in this country, a marriage could be registered in Sri Lanka. Using this law, the individual’s wife will then go to France and request citizenship for the husband, which is the nature of this scam.
