Local Tourists have been provided with the opportunity to visit Sigiriya for three days free of charge in view of the Vesak festival and national museum day.

The manager of the Sigiri project, Retired Major Anura Nishantha noted that local tourists would be able to visit Sigiriya free of charge from day after tomorrow to the 20th of May.

Accordingly, the artefacts placed at the museum following excavations in Sigiriya will also be on display at the museum free of charge.

Foreign tourists will also be able to visit the museum free of charge.

Meanwhile, special protection has been deployed by the Army, Air force and Sigiriya police to ensure the safety of tourists.

Meanwhile, the Public Health Inspectors association says that the registering of Dansel in view of the Vesak festival has significantly decreased.

The secretary to the association, Mahendra Obeysekera noted that nearly 6000 dansal locations were registered in the previous year while this year the total number of registered dansel stands at only 92.
