A decade since the War Victory

Saturday, 18 May 2019 - 8:55

Today marks 10 years since the end of the War against the LTTE.

The War Victory shall be cherished forever, as it brought about the day where all communities could live in peace and harmony.

Sri Lanka went through decades of conflict as it fought against the LTTE Terrorists, who claimed the lives of thousands of innocent civilians as well as many state leaders, political and civil society leaders.

No one can forget the damage it caused to Sri Lanka throughout 3 decades.

The terrorists attacked many places of economic importance, such as the Central Bank, the BIA and several religious places including Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya, Sri Dalada Maligawa and Kaththankudi mosque.

The final phase of the war commenced with LTTE closing down the Mavillaru anicut depriving people of water.

Thus commenced the humanitarian operation to free people from the grips of the Terrorists and bring about peace to the entire country.

The valiant war heroes were our only hope – they risked their lives to ensure we had a better future. That sort of selflessness, where they were willing to fight for our country where they may not live to see a free country cannot be explained in words and there are many who were critically injured in the war.

We are forever in debt to them

At a time where the importance of the role of the Armed Forces is felt once again, we shall place our fullest trust in them to safeguard our beautiful country, forever and for always.
