National organizer of the Bodu Bala Sena organization, Venerable Vitharandeniye Nanda thero says that the general secretary of Bodu Bala Sena, Venerable Galagoda atthe Gnanasara thero who was serving a prison sentence will be released today.

The thero noted that Gnanasara thero will be released around 3 pm today.

Gnanasara thero was sentenced to 19 years of rigorous imprisonment, to be completed within 6 year on the 18th of August 2018 on the charges of contempt of court.

Former Homagama Magistrate and present Colombo Chief Magistrate Ranga Dissanayake had filed a contempt of court action against Gnanasara theros for his behaviour in the court complex following the hearing of journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda’s disappearance case.

Accordingly upon a prior order of the court of appeal, the attorney general filed a case against Gnanasara thero under 4 allegations.

Previously, The Homagama High Court suspended a six months imprisonment sentence imposed on the general secretary of the Bodu Bala Sena Organization, Venerable Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thero for a period of five year for threatening Sandya Ekneligoda, the wife of missing journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda.

This was announcing the verdict pertaining to an appeal filed by Gnanasara thero.
