Heavy rains of 100mm in some areas today as well

The Meteorology Department said that the rainy weather affecting the island will prevail in some areas today as well.

In a statement issued the Department said that more than 100mm of rain could be experienced in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva Provinces.

Strong winds could be experienced with rain in those areas and the Meteorology Department warns people to take steps to minimize accidents due to lightning.

Meanwhile, with heavy rain experienced in a few areas including Polonnaruwa and Bendiwewa yesterday evening, several houses were damaged due to the strong winds that prevailed.

Our Correspondent said that trees have fallen on to some of the roads and power has been interrupted in several areas.
