9 suspects of copper factory on bail ordered to appear at the TID

Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage ordered the 9 suspects who were arrested from the copper factory of Wellampitiya and were bailed out later to give statements to the TID.

Accordingly, statements will be recorded from them from tomorrow until June 1st.

At the same time, another suspect, Karupiah Rajendran alias Abdullah was further remanded until June 10th.

TID told the court that they have information the suspect Abdulla had maintained close contacts with leader of the proscribed Thawheet Jamath, Zahran.

When the magistrate asked whether the suspects are investigated under the Prevention of Terrorism Act, TID said the ongoing investigations are conducted under the PTA but it needs to record further statements from the suspects before deciding under what Act they are going to book the suspects.
