Army Commander Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake said that the reports appearing on Social Media that various factions have asked him to come forward and take over the administration of the country even for a short period and that he had responded to the request was false.

Making a special statement to our news team, he said that the Army will not get involved in any unlawful activity.

The Army Commander said that the Army was a professionally disciplined army.

Army Commander Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake said that the people of the country have recognized the Army and as a result it is the priority responsibility of the Army to provide protection to the people and the country.

He pointed out that the Army acts, based on orders given by the President as the Commander of the forces.

Therefore the Army Commander emphasized further that they will never act against the Commander of the forces or the Constitution.
