Two containers containing 40 million rupees worth 11 thousand kilogrammes of beedi leaves imported illegally from India were recovered in a joint raid the police narcotics eradication bureau and the customs carried out.

Reports say that the stock of beedi leaves had been imported using the name of a company that imports chemicals to the country.

The raid was carried out at the Ingurukade Customs terminal on a tip-off the police narcotics bureau had received.

While these beedi leaves had been packed in beedi leaf bags each containing a 183 kilogrammes parcel of beedi leaves, investigations have by now begun regarding the persons who had imported them.
