A Court Order in connection with disposal of Garbage from the Anuradhapura Municipal Council

The Chief Magistrate of Anuradhapura Janaka Prasanna Samarasinghe has decided that the Anuradhapura Municipal Council is disposing of garbage into the Keerikkulama garbage disposal in a way that harms public health.

Accordingly, the Magistrate ordered the Anuradhapura Municipal Council and the East – Nuwaragampalatha Pradeshiya Sabha to immediately suspend disposing of garbage at this place, which is a problem for the public and is harmful to health.

The Chief Magistrate of Anuradhapura issued this order subsequent to considering petition submitted to the Court by a group of residents.

If disposal has to be continued at this garbage yard further, the Magistrate had ordered that an Environment Protection License has to be obtained from the Central Environmental Authority and the garbage disposal has to be prepared based on criteria of the Central Environmental Authority within a period of six months.
