Heavy rains in several provinces in the island today

The Meteorology Department says that rains of 100mm could be experienced today in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces as well as in the Galle and Matara Districts.

Rain or thundershowers could be experienced after 2pm today in the Uva Province as well as in the districts of Batticaloa and Ampara. In a statement issued the Meteorology Department says that during thundershowers temporary strong winds could prevail.

At the same time the speed of the wind could increase up to 50 kilometers per hour in the sea areas from Puttalam to Mannar through Kankesanturai as well as from Matara to Pottuvil across Batticaloa.
