The Meteorology Department said that the speed of winds in sea areas off the coasts of Colombo to Galle through Hambantota could suddenly increase to between 70-80 kilometres per hour.

The Department said that the reason was that an active system of clouds in the sea area off the Southwestern coast of the island has formed.

In the statement issued, it says that both the fishing and Naval communities should be alert about this situation.

The Meteorology Department also said that in the meantime, the rain weather prevailing in the Southwest part of the island could increase further tomorrow and day after.
