Kumar Wickremasinghe, a Sri Lankan Professor has become a member of the British Royal Society which comprises of leading scientists in the world.

He is the second Sri Lankan to join the Society.

The BBC News Service reported that Professor Malik Peiris who identified the SARS virus became a member of this Society previously.

The British Royal Society is the world’s oldest science association in operation in the world and Sir Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin and Stephen Hawkings have members here.

Professor Kumar Wickremasinghe has been granted membership in this society on behalf of the service rendered by the Professor to the field of Physical and Electrical Engineering Technology. It is said that research theories he submitted have been useful in manufacturing the Molecular Microscope which is being used in Nano Technological Laboratories at present.
