Information regarding three persons who were involved in the robbery of cash and gold valued at more than 160 million twenty five thousand rupees at a state bank in Thalawa has been revealed by now.

This was when six individuals transporting Cannabis were taken into custody and questioned.

These suspects had been arrested while transporting in a van one kilo and 300 grams of Cannabis, on 20 January at Kiralogama – Eppawala.

The Police Media Spokesman’s office said they were continuously remanded subsequent to being produced at the Thambuttegama Magistrate’s Court.

Meanwhile based on information including telephone analyses in relation to the Thalawa Bank robbery, and the investigations carried out further, facts were revealed that the six persons involved in the incident of transporting Cannabis were connected to this robbery.

These three are aged between 27 and 40 years and are residents of Ipalogama and Thalawa.

The Police Media Spokesman’s office said that among the suspects was an army deserter and an individual who had legally left the Airforce.

The Eppawala Police found previously, a luxury, modern cab and a motor vehicle purchased using the money stolen and money obtained by selling gold items.

In addition, a van in which the suspected arrived in to carry out the crime has also been found. The Police Media Spokesman’s office said they were produced before the Thambuththegama Magistrate.

Police have taken over gold jewellery which was worn by one of the suspects at the time of his arrest. The jewellery was worth 1.7 million rupees and weighed 35 sovereigns. It was revealed that they had been purchased using stolen money.
