Attorney General requests the Chief Justice to appoint full bench on Easter Sunday attacks

The Attorney General requested the Chief Justice today to hear the fundamental rights case with regard to the Easter Sunday attacks before a full bench.

The 4 petitions were called before Supreme Court justices, Sisira de Abrew, Gamini Amarasekera and Murdu Fernando today.

IGP Pujith Jayasundara and former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando have been named as respondents in these petitions.

Appearing for the Attorney General, Senior Additional solicitor General Farzana Jameel requested the Chief Justice to hear the petitions before a full bench as there are nationally important facts included in these petitions.

Accordingly, the justices ordered to call the petitions again on June 6th.

At the same time, the three-judge bench ordered the Court Registrar to facilitate to appointing a full bench to hear these petitions.
