The attention of the Department of Registration of Persons has been focused on a new procedure where, when including information of persons in a National Identity Card, fingerprints are also involved.

The Commissioner General of the Department Viyani Gunatillaka said that this procedure will be followed in order to ensure further, national security.

At the same time the Department of Registration of Persons will focus attention on the weaknesses of the older Identity Card and make arrangement to issue National Identity Cards using modern technology.
