Asgiri – Malwathu Mahanayakes and the Cardinal oppose signing agreements detrimental to country

The Asgiriya, Malwatte Chapters and Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith told the government that public opinion should be sought before signing agreements with foreign countries which could impact on the independence and sovereignty of Sri Lanka.

The Mahanayake Thera of the Asgiriya Chapter, Anunayake Theras of both Malwatte and Asgiriya Chapters and Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith issued this joint statement after a lengthy discussion on the prevailing situation in the country,at the Asgiriya Maha Viharaya yesterday.

They said that they are against any attempt by the Government in power to enter into agreements with any country which are detrimental to the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the motherland.

Wendaruwe Upali Thera and Most Ven Anamaduwe Dhammadassi Thera held the discussion.
