The parliamentary select committee appointed to investigate into the Easter Sunday attacks, has summoned former western province governor Asad Sali to give evidence before the committee today.

Accordingly the select committee will convene at 2 pm under the patronage of acting chairman of the select committee, MP Dr. Jayampathi Wickramaratne.

In addition to Asad Sali, the chairman of All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama organization, M.I.M Rizvi Maulawi and the chairman of the Kaththankudi mosque have also been summoned for the hearing of evidences today.

IGP Pujith Jayasundara who has been sent on compulsory leave at the moment, and former defence secretary Hemasiri Fernando, gave evidence last thursday before the select committee with regard to the Easter Sunday attack.

Former DIG of the TID Nalaka de Silva and former defense secretary retired general Shantha Kottegoda as well as chief of intelligence retired senior DIG Sisira Mendis provided evidences before the select committee previously.

Meanwhile, many civil society organizations requested from the speaker Karu Jayasuriya yesterday, that the select committee appointed to investigate the terrorist attacks, be provided with the necessary space to continue the investigation without any external influence.

The speaker in response to the request noted that he intends to consider the views expressed by various parties regarding the select committee at the party leaders meeting.
