The group of Muslim ministers who resigned from their posts recently are to arrive at a final decision on whether to re-assume duties in their respective portfolios during a special discussion scheduled today.

Accordingly, a resigned minister noted that the discussion is to be held at 4pm at former minister A.H.M Fauzis residence in Colombo.

They are also to discuss regarding the police investigations against former minister Rishad Bathiudeen to be concluded within a month.

Upon the fast unto death initiated by Venerable Athuraliye Rathana Thero demanding that western and eastern province governors as well as former minister Rishad Bathiudeen be removed from their posts, all Muslim cabinet and state and deputy ministers resigned.

However the Maha Sangha of the three chapters expressed their disappointment over the matter and requested the muslim ministers to continue serving the country by assuming responsibilities once again.

This was during a discussion held at the Asigiri temple on the 5th of June under the patronage of the chief prelates.

Meanwhile, 6 Muslim ministers who resigned from their posts have been assigned back benches in the parliamentary chambers from today onwards.

Serjeant-at-Arms Narendra Fernando noted that the speaker has received their letters of resignation.

However, due to the role played as party leaders, UNP chairman, former minister Kabeer Hashim, Leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress former minister Rauf Hakeem, and the leader of the All Ceylon people’s congress former minister Rishad Bathiudeen will not be allocated new seats
